(Britain) Yet another champion grasstracker Don Godden is still active in
grasstrack and his son Mitch uses Godden GR500 engines in grasstrack in
laydown form. They appear to be competitive with the latest Jawas and
certaintly would be fine on the short American tracks. Godden was nearly
destroyed by the end of the Cold War, after the Berlin Wall came down Jawa
dumped their products on the market and companies like Godden and Weslake
couldn't compete. Below is Mitch Godden riding last year on his GR 500.
Okay, I have spoken with Mitch Godden and 500cc laydown engines can be
handbuilt to your specs for 2000.00 U.K. pounds. These have recirculating
oil and built in mag (NO MAGIG BOX!) The higher than a Jawa price is due
to very low volume production and because his workers like you here in the
US get payed a hell of lot more than the chaps in the former east. So
enjoy the wage while you can before your job is shipped abroad. Again more
details to follow.
UPDATE
I was ready to buy a Godden Laydown, gave my credit
card and..... I called Godden this morning may 21st after not hearing
anything for awhile and was told that there are too many expensive pieces
missing, parts that need casting, to make building an engine viable. Crap.
